Rajbir Singh was an honest man and also the owner of Roseville Cab in California. One winter day in February 2020, he picked up a 92-year-old woman. Being a friendly man, he began to make conversation with her and learned that she wanted to go to the bank to make a $25,000 withdrawal to pay off an IRS debt.
Not only was Rajbir Singh an honest and friendly man, but he was also a caring person. Sensing that something wasn’t right, he begged her not to withdraw any money, telling her that he was certain that she was being scammed. But his elderly passenger still wasn’t convinced that he was right.
He asked her if the person who called her needing the money was a relative. She became silent. Now Rajbir was certain that it was a scam! He convinced her to let him call the person needing money (who was posing as an IRS employee) and asked him, “Do you know this lady?” He answered “No.” He told the scammer that the lady was 92 years old and nervous about the situation. The would-be scammer then hung up and eventually blocked his number, preventing Rajbir from calling again.
Even after this, the lady was not convinced it was a scam. But Rajbir was determined to help her and pleaded with her to go with him to the Roseville police station to speak to an officer. When she agreed, he took her there and explained the situation to an officer, who then spoke to the lady, finally convincing her that it was indeed a scam. A relieved Rajbir was then able to drive her home, saving her from being scammed out of $25,000.
God Is Ready to Give
The Bible tells us that “the thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I [Jesus] am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:1010The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (John 10:10)). Just as a scammer wants to deceive and steal, Satan wants to deceive us about faith in Jesus and His death on the cross for our sins. Satan will tell any lie to kill and destroy us spiritually. Just as Rajbir saw the danger and told the lady the truth, so the Bible points the sinner to salvation and eternal life through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. “Christ died for our sins” (1 Corinthians 15:3), and, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:1212Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12)).
It took a lot of effort for Rajbir and the police officer to persuade this elderly lady that someone was trying to scam her. Most of us are not any different than this elderly lady. God, “who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:4), uses His Word, creation, our consciences, and life’s circumstances to speak to us. He wants to catch our attention, but are we too busy listening to the devil’s lies to listen to Him? Be careful! The Bible tells us that the “Lord [God] said, My Spirit shall not always strive with man” (Genesis 6:33And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. (Genesis 6:3)).
Listening to Truth
The lady was wise to listen to Rajbir and then the police officer. If we listen to what God has to say and receive the salvation He offers, we will have joy, peace and freedom.
If we listen to Satan’s lies, we will spend an awful unending existence in hell with the devil and his angels. Satan will tell you, “There’s no God — or there might be, but you can’t know for sure.” “There’s no such thing as a heaven or a hell!” “There are many religions/beliefs — one’s as good as another.” “Just do the best you can — and you’ll get there in the end!” “Be faithful to whatever religion you were born into and you’ll have nothing to worry about!”
The most deceptive, the most dangerous lie that Satan will tell you is this: “Yes, there is a God. Yes, there is a heaven and a hell. Yes, all men are sinners and in need of a Savior. Yes, you need to repent of your sins and ask God to forgive you. Yes, Jesus died as the perfect sacrifice on the cross for your sins and rose from the dead and lives again. Yes, there is cleansing power in the blood of Jesus. Yes, you need to repent and yield your heart to Jesus — BUT do it later! Wait! Don’t be in such a hurry — enjoy life just a little longer!” Don’t listen to this lie — if you wait, you may die. If you wait, your heart will only grow harder, until you no longer hear the gentle call of God’s Holy Spirit.
God is calling you NOW. “Behold now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2). “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and [you will] be saved” (Acts 16:3131And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. (Acts 16:31)).
