There are groups of people who live in tents as they travel from place to place searching for pasture for their flocks. They are called nomads. Not too many people live as nomads these days. But we are all nomads in a certain sense. Our life is shockingly short compared to eternity. We have no permanent home here. No matter how deep we might want to drive our tent stakes into the ground, they will be pulled up, and we will be forced to move on. We are on our way to a permanent eternal destiny. There is nothing that can stop us from taking this journey. Each person will spend eternity in one of two places: heaven or hell. It is a binary choice, either this or that. There is no other.
The Bible solemnly declares that each person will come into judgment for the things they have done in life. Sin is not the innocent plaything unbelievers make it out to be. “The wages of sin is death,” Romans 6:2323For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23) solemnly reads. Those who go on in their sins until the day they die will be sent out of God’s presence into the darkness of hell.
The miseries and sufferings of hell will be forever. This is why it is so important to repent and come by faith to the Savior of sinners. On the cross, the Lord Jesus won a great victory over sin, death and hell. He won this victory by suffering for a world of lost sinners. He is ready to share the results of His victory with all who believe that He is the Son of God.
For those who freely turn to Him, He has the marvelous gifts of forgiveness, grace, eternal life and an inheritance in heaven. The Lord Jesus truly is the “Prince of Life” (Acts 3:1515And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. (Acts 3:15)) because only He gives the gift of life to the world.
No matter how deep you may attempt to drive the tent stakes of your life into this Earth, they will be pulled up. This Earth is only our temporary home. We are just passing through. We are on our way to an eternal destination. Where will you spend eternity?
