Descended from Jacob's eighth son. Gen. 30:12, 13¹²And Zilpah Leah's maid bare Jacob a second son. ¹³And Leah said, Happy am I, for the daughters will call me blessed: and she called his name Asher. (Genesis 30:12‑13).

Predictions concerning. Gen. 49:20²⁰Out of Asher his bread shall be fat, and he shall yield royal dainties. (Genesis 49:20). Deu. 33:24, 25.

Strength of, on leaving Egypt. Num. 1:40, 41⁴⁰Of the children of Asher, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; ⁴¹Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Asher, were forty and one thousand and five hundred. Num. 7:72-77⁷²On the eleventh day Pagiel the son of Ocran, prince of the children of Asher, offered: ⁷³His offering was one silver charger, the weight whereof was an hundred and thirty shekels, one silver bowl of seventy shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary; both of them full of fine flour mingled with oil for a meat offering: ⁷⁴One golden spoon of ten shekels, full of incense: ⁷⁵One young bullock, one ram, one lamb of the first year, for a burnt offering: ⁷⁶One kid of the goats for a sin offering: ⁷⁷And for a sacrifice of peace offerings, two oxen, five rams, five he goats, five lambs of the first year: this was the offering of Pagiel the son of Ocran. Luke 2:36³⁶And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; (Luke 2:36).
