Blasphemy.

Christ assailed with. Mat. 10:25. Luke 22:64, 65⁶⁴And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee? ⁶⁵And many other things blasphemously spake they against him. (Luke 22:64‑65). 1 Pet. 4:14¹⁴If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. (1 Peter 4:14).

Charged upon Christ. Mat. 9:2, 3.

Charged upon saints. Acts 6:11, 13¹¹Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God. (Acts 6:11)
¹³And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law: (Acts 6:13).

Proceeds from the heart. Mat. 15:19.

Forbidden. Exo. 20:7⁷Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. (Exodus 20:7). Col. 3:8⁸But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. (Colossians 3:8).

The wicked addicted to. Psa. 74:18¹⁸Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O Lord, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name. (Psalm 74:18). Isa. 52:5⁵Now therefore, what have I here, saith the Lord, that my people is taken away for nought? they that rule over them make them to howl, saith the Lord; and my name continually every day is blasphemed. (Isaiah 52:5). 2 Tim. 3:2²For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, (2 Timothy 3:2). Rev. 16:11, 21¹¹And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds. (Revelation 16:11)
²¹And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great. (Revelation 16:21).

Idolatry counted as. Isa. 65:7⁷Your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, saith the Lord, which have burned incense upon the mountains, and blasphemed me upon the hills: therefore will I measure their former work into their bosom. (Isaiah 65:7). Eze. 20:27, 28²⁷Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed me, in that they have committed a trespass against me. ²⁸For when I had brought them into the land, for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering: there also they made their sweet savor, and poured out there their drink offerings. (Ezekiel 20:27‑28).

Hypocrisy counted as. Rev. 2:9⁹I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. (Revelation 2:9).

Saints grieved to hear. Psa. 44:15, 16¹⁵My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me, ¹⁶For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger. (Psalm 44:15‑16). Psa. 74:10, 18, 22¹⁰O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever? (Psalm 74:10)
¹⁸Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O Lord, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name. (Psalm 74:18)
²²Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily. (Psalm 74:22).

Give no occasion for. 2 Sam. 12:14¹⁴Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die. (2 Samuel 12:14). 1 Tim. 6:1¹Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed. (1 Timothy 6:1).

Against the Holy Ghost, unpardonable. Mat. 12:31, 32.

Connected with folly and pride. 2 Kin. 19:22. Psa. 74:18¹⁸Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O Lord, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name. (Psalm 74:18).

Punishment of. Lev. 24:16¹⁶And he that blasphemeth the name of the Lord, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death. (Leviticus 24:16). Isa. 65: 7. Eze. 20:27-33²⁷Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed me, in that they have committed a trespass against me. ²⁸For when I had brought them into the land, for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering: there also they made their sweet savor, and poured out there their drink offerings. ²⁹Then I said unto them, What is the high place whereunto ye go? As I live, saith the Lord God, I will not be inquired of by you. ³²And that which cometh into your mind shall not be at all, that ye say, We will be as the heathen, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone. ³³As I live, saith the Lord God, surely with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out, will I rule over you: (Ezekiel 20:27‑33). Eze. 35:11, 12¹¹Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord God, I will even do according to thine anger, and according to thine envy which thou hast used out of thy hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I have judged thee. ¹²And thou shalt know that I am the Lord, and that I have heard all thy blasphemies which thou hast spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given us to consume. (Ezekiel 35:11‑12).

Exemplified. The Danite, Lev. 24:11¹¹And the Israelitish woman's son blasphemed the name of the Lord, and cursed. And they brought him unto Moses: (and his mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan:) (Leviticus 24:11). Sennacherib, 2 Kin. 19:4, 10, 22. The Jews, Luke 22:65⁶⁵And many other things blasphemously spake they against him. (Luke 22:65). Hymeneus, 1 Tim. 1:20²⁰Of whom is Hymeneus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme. (1 Timothy 1:20).
