Some MSS. here read "believeth may in him have eternal life," whilst in verse 16 they retain "believeth on him should not perish but have eternal life." It is a question of readings, and it cannot be doubted that they have good authority.

The clause "not perish, but" is not in some MSS. of the highest character; but almost all read it in verse 16.
