 In psalm 42 we have seen the soul internally restored and animated to an earnest thirsting after God Himself, seeking all its joy in Himself. Being brought to that, psalm 43 is looking out for a deliverance, which shall enable it to enjoy God freely and fully. (Practical Reflections on the Psalms: Psalms 42-44 by J.N. Darby)
 In this psalm the earnest desire of the godly man is to be delivered from his different foes— “an ungodly nation,” the Jews; “the deceitful and unjust man”―the Antichrist. (Psalms 43 by H. Smith)
 Being cast out the godly remnant suffer under a double character of persecution: from their apostate brethren (“the ungodly nation,” vs. 1), and from the Gentiles (“the enemy,” vs. 2) into whose lands bordering Israel they have been forced to flee. (Book 2. by B. Anstey)
