An instruction; of Asaph.{HR}Why, O God, hast thou cast off forever?{HR}Smoketh thy wrath against the sheep of thy pasture?

Remember thine assembly thou hast purchased of old,{HR}Thou hast redeemed [as] rod of thine inheritance,{HR}This mount Zion thou hast dwelt in.
3
Lift up thy steps unto the perpetual ruins,{HR}Every evil the enemy hath done in the sanctuary.
4
Thine adversaries have roared in the midst of thy place of assembly:{HR}They have set their signs [for] signs.

One was known as raising up axes on the thicket of trees:

And now its carvings together they strike down with hatchets and hammers.
7
They have set on fire thy sanctuary;{HR}To the ground they have profaned the tabernacle of thy name.

They said in their heart,{HR}Let us destroy them together.{HR}They have burnt all God’s places of assembly in the land.

Our signs we see not;{HR}[There is] no more a prophet,{HR}And with us [is] not any knowing how long.
10
How long, O God, shall the adversary reproach?{HR}Shall the enemy despise thy name forever?

Why drawest thou back thy hand, and thy right hand?{HR}From the midst of thy bosom consume [them].

Yet (And) God [is] my king of old{HR}Working deliverances in the midst of the earth.

Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength;{HR}Thou didst break the heads of dragons on the waters;
14
Thou didst crush the heads of leviathan,{HR}Thou gavest it as food to a people dwelling in the wilderness.
15
Thou didst cleave fount and torrent,{HR}Thou didst dry up rivers ever flowing.

Day is thine, yea, thine, night.{HR}Thou didst prepare light and sun;

Thou didst set all the borders of earth;{HR}Summer and winter, thou didst form them.

Remember this: an enemy hath reproached, O Jehovah,{HR}And a foolish people have despised thy name.

Give not up the soul of thy turtle-dove to the wild beast :{HR}Forget not the herd of thine afflicted forever.

Have respect unto the covenant;{HR}For the dark places of the earth are full of the dwellings of violence.

Let not the oppressed return ashamed;{HR}Let crushed one and needy one praise thy name.

Arise, O God, plead thy cause;{HR}Remember thy reproach from the fool all the day.

Forget not the voice of thine adversaries:{HR}The tumult of those that rise up against thee goeth up continually.
