(Title.)This Psalm is supposed by some to have been composed by Moses on the same occasion as the preceding; but others think it was written by David, after his advice to his son Solomon.
1 Chron. 28:1‑21• 1{i}And David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the princes of the divisions that ministered to the king, and the captains over thousands, and the captains over hundreds, and the comptrollers of all the substance and possessions of the king and of his sons, with the chamberlains, and the mighty men, and all the men of valour, unto Jerusalem.{/i}
2{i}And king David stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren and my people!{/i} As for me, I had in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and for the footstool of our God, {i}and I have prepared to build{/i}.
3{i}But{/i} God said unto me, Thou shalt not build an house for my name, because thou hast been a man of war, and hast shed blood.
4Howbeit Jehovah, God of Israel, chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel forever: for he hath chosen Judah to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he liked me to make me king over all Israel;
5{i}and of all my sons, (for Jehovah has given me many sons,) he has chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of Jehovah over Israel{/i}.
6And he said unto me, Solomon thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen him {i}to be my son, and I will be his father{/i}.
7{i}And I will establish his kingdom forever, if he be firm to do my commandments and mine ordinances, as at this day.{/i}
8{i}And now in the sight of all Israel, the congregation of Jehovah, and in the audience of our God, —keep and seek for all the commandments of Jehovah your God; that ye may possess the good land, and leave it as an inheritance to your children after you forever.{/i}
9{i}And thou, Solomon my son, know the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind; for Jehovah searches all hearts, and discerns all the imaginations of the thoughts. If thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cut thee off forever.{/i}
10{i}Consider now, that Jehovah has chosen thee to build a house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.{/i}
11{i}And David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the porch, and of its houses, and of its treasuries, and of its upper chambers, and of its inner chambers, and of the house of the mercy-seat;{/i}
12and the pattern of all that he had by the Spirit, of the courts of the house of Jehovah, and of all the chambers round about, of the treasuries of the house of God, and of the treasuries of the dedicated things;
13also for the courses of the priests and the Levites, and for all the work of the service of the house of Jehovah, and for all the vessels of service in the house of Jehovah,
14{i}gold by weight for things of gold, for all utensils of each kind of service; for all utensils of silver, by weight, for all utensils of each kind of service;{/i}
15{i}and the weight of the golden candlesticks, and of their golden lamps, by weight for every candlestick, and for its lamps; and for the silver candlesticks, by weight, for the candlestick and for its lamps, according to the use of every candlestick{/i};
16he gave by weight of the gold {i}for the tables of the loaves to be set in rows{/i}, for the various vessels, and the silver for those that were to be made of silver;
17also pure gold for the flesh-hooks and for the bowls, and the cups; {i}and for the golden basons by weight for every bason; and for the silver basons by weight for every bason;{/i}
18{i}and for the altar of incense, refined gold by weight; and the pattern of the chariot of the cherubim of gold, which spread out their wings and cover the ark of the covenant of Jehovah.{/i}
19All this (said David) Jehovah made me understand in writing by his hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern.
20{i}And David said to Solomon his son,{/i} Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for Jehovah God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work, for the service of the house of Jehovah.
21{i}And behold, the courses of the priests and the Levites are for all the service of the house of God; and thou hast with thee for all manner of workmanship every willing man, skilful for every sort of service; and the princes and all the people are wholly at thy commandment.{/i}

 Book 4, Series 1. The Great Tribulation. (“The Placement of the Psalms in Prophecy” by B. Anstey)
 It takes Jehovah, as such, as God; and so he who owns that name, comes under the care of El-Shaddai for a specific performance of earthly promises in the ways of God. This is not our place; one who acted on it would deceive himself. Yet a general faith, and trust of heart founded on it, would surely be blessed. It does not take up a Father's chastenings with which the government of God connects itself. (Practical Reflections on the Psalms: Psalms 90-93 by J.N. Darby)
 It is not merely the knowledge that there is an Almighty God, who is above all things: the secret place of His true revelation of Himself must be known. This, true faith has, and confers with God there according to it. His name is revealed to faith. (Practical Reflections on the Psalms: Psalms 90-93 by J.N. Darby)
 The 90th Psalm presents mortal man in contrast to the everlasting God. The 91st Psalm presents Christ as the perfectly dependent Man in contrast to mortal man. (Psalm 91 by H. Smith)
 If Psalms 90 describes the blessedness of the dwelling place, Psalms 91 presents the blessedness of the dweller. (Psalm 91 by H. Smith)
 “He that dwelleth...shall abide.” Who can this be but Christ, the One who, in His pathway through this world, ever abode in the secret place of the Most High? He could speak of Himself as “the Son of Man which is in heaven.” He walked on earth but dwelt in heaven. (Psalm 91 by H. Smith)
 The “Most High” speaks of the absolute supremacy of God (Gen. 14:18-20). “The Almighty” speaks of absolute power (Gen. 17:1). (Psalm 91 by H. Smith)
 Psalm 91, on the other hand, gives the divine protection and care of the new generation (the children under 20 years of age) as they were brought along the way safely to the promised land. (Book 4. by B. Anstey)
 PSALM 91 In contrast to the previous psalm where men and women are seen falling in death and not making it through the tribulation, this psalm shows the divine care and protection the remnant will experience as they pass through that same seven year period. (Book 4. by B. Anstey)
 Four names of God are used in this psalm; “the Most High” (El Eylon), “Almighty” (El Shaddai), “LORD” (Jehovah), and “God” (Elohim), showing the infinite care God has for the protection of His own (vs. 1-2). (Book 4. by B. Anstey)
