1. Mi piloto sé, ¡oh Salvador!,
Por la vida en que hay temor:
Olas llevan mi bajel
Do se esconde roca infiel;
Carta, brújula eres y luz;
Mi piloto sé, Jesús.
2. Vientos fieros puedes calmar:
“¡Enmudece, calla, oh mar!”,
Fue el mandato de Tu voz,
¡Gran y omnipotente Dios!;
Soberano Tú eres del mar,
Calma siempre me has de dar.
3. Largo el viaje, al fin llegará
En Tu puerto en gloria allá;
Siempre en paz contigo estar
Y en Tu seno reposar;
Mi piloto, Te alabaré
Cuando al puerto arribaré.
Los pensamientos expresados en las estrofas del himno se hallan en las siguientes Escrituras y en muchas otras: Salmo 107:23-3123They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; 24These see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep. 25For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof. 26They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble. 27They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end. 28Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses. 29He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. 30Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven. 31Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! (Psalm 107:23‑31); Marcos 4:39-4139And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? 41And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him? (Mark 4:39‑41); Proverbios 4:1818But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. (Proverbs 4:18); Juan 14:33And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. (John 14:3).
