antichrist.
whereby.
You never can bring me to anything where God was manifested but to the living word of Christ, or the written word of Scripture. We have only to ask—is it that which you have heard from the beginning? if not, "it is evil seducers." (Notes on 1 John 2:8)
But the two aspects of Christianity (that which, on the one hand, regards the accomplishment in the Person of Jesus of the promises made to the Jew; and, on the other hand, the heavenly and eternal blessings presented in the revelation of the Father by the Son), this the Antichrist does not accept. (1 John 2 by J.N. Darby)
To deny that Jesus is the Christ is indeed the Jewish disbelief that forms part of his character. That which gives him the character of Antichrist is that he denies the foundation of Christianity. (1 John 2 by J.N. Darby)
When God raised up the Church by the presence of the Holy Ghost, while Christ was on high, so that a man was in heaven, and the Holy Ghost in the world—there came power of redemption into the middle of Satan's world. That was not the last time. But now antichrists had come in, and he says, “this is the last time,” because even this had failed, and nothing will come after this but judgment. (Notes on 1 John 2:12-28 by J.N. Darby)
The anointing of the Spirit is for power and discernment (1 John 2:18-21, 24-27). The sealing of the Spirit is for our assurance (Eph. 1:13; 4:30). The earnest of the Spirit is for our present enjoyment of what is coming in the future (Eph. 1:14). J. N. Darby Translation

+
18
Little childrenf, it is the last houra, and, according as ye have heard that antichrist comes, even now there have comeb many antichrists, whence we know that it is the last hour.

JND Translation Notes

+
f
Paidion (diminutive); it has reference to growth. It stands in contrast to "young men" and "fathers."
a
John uses "hour" continually in the sense of "time," as John 5.35, "a season." It is properly a given point of time. With John it is constantly a period characterized by one thing, and hence looked at as only one time. As we say "the hour of Napoleon's greatness."
b
"There have come" (ginomai. John 1.17) is not from the same word as "comes" in this verse. It is what did not exist before, but begins or becomes. "There have come" I believe nearest the sense. The perfect tense conveys the thought that they still exist.

W. Kelly Translation

+
18
Little children, it is [the] last houra, and even as ye heard that antichrist cometh, even now many antichrists have comeb, whence we know that it is [the] last hour.

WK Translation Notes

+
a
Last "hour" (twice) is more vivid than last "time" according to the KJV.
b
"There have arisen" or "come" is better than "shall come" of the KJV.
