every mouth.Idolaters often kissed their hand in honour of their idols; and hence the origin of adoration from {ad,} to and {os, oris,} the mouth.
Cicero mentions a statue of Hercules, the chin and lips of which were considerably worn by the kissing of his worshippers.
 There was therefore a remnant according to the election of grace, known by God, but unknown to Elijah. The soft gentle voice was still being heard in these days of apostasy, and it was in this feeble remnant that God found His pleasure. (Elijah Before God: 1 Kings 19:9-21 by H.L. Rossier)
