Sergius Paulus . . . desired to hear the word of God.
Acts 13:7

Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God. (Acts 13:7)
In this passage we have three men with strong desires: Sergius Paulus, who desired to hear God’s Word; the Apostle Paul, who desired to preach the Word; and, Elymas the sorcerer, who desired to stop the Word. Today we have the same situation. There are those who want to hear the gospel, and those who want to preach, and Satan who is trying to stop it going out. The Christian’s life is indeed a spiritual battle.
