Because thine heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst thyself before me, and didst rend thy clothes, and weep before me; I have even heard thee also, saith the Lord. (2 Chronicles 34:27)
Because . . . thou didst humble thyself before God . . . I have even heard thee also.
2 Chronicles 34:27

Josiah’s heart responded in simple, genuine humbleness when the law of Moses was read to him. He realized with shame that Israel, as a nation, had not kept it. God responds to humility on our part, and for Josiah that meant that God would take him to heaven before judgment fell on Israel. Let’s recognize God’s greatness and our own failures and unworthiness. He will honor us then.
