Lot’s witness as a believer in God had been lost over the years in Sodom. We can only assume that no outward evidence of faith in God had been shown in his family life. And, of course, he had become involved in the city’s politics. Now his call for his sons-in-law to leave was rejected by them as laughable. Why would Lot want them to leave the very city in which he held public office? A double standard (worldly living outside, faith in God inside) makes no conviction in our witness. Let’s live Christ on the outside and the inside - then our witness will be effective.
