John 8:33‑44• 33They answered him, We are Abraham's seed, and have never been in bondage to anyone: how sayest thou, Ye shall become free?
34Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Every one that practiceth sin is a bondman of sin.
35Now the bondman abideth not in the house forever; the son abideth forever.
36If therefore the Son shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
37I know that ye are Abraham's seed, but ye seek to kill me because my word maketh no way in you.
38I speak what I have seen with my Father, and ye therefore practice what ye have seen with your father.
39They answered and said to him, Our father is Abraham. Jesus saith to them, If ye are Abraham's children, ye would practice the works of Abraham;
40but now ye seek to kill me, a man who hath spoken to you the truth which I heard from God: this Abraham did not practice.
41Ye practice the works of your father. They said [therefore] to him, We were not born of fornication; we have one father, God.
42Jesus said to them, If God were your father, ye would have loved me, for I came forth from God and am come; for neither have I come of myself, but he sent me.
43Why do ye not know my speech? Because ye cannot hear my word.
44Ye are of your father, the devil, and ye desire to practice the lusts of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and standeth not in the truth, because there is no truth in him: whenever he speaketh the lie, he speaketh out of his own things, because he is a liar, and the father of it.

;
Rom. 4:12‑13• 12and father of circumcision not only to those circumcised but also to those that walk in the steps of the faith of our father Abraham while in uncircumcision.

Rom. 9:4‑8• 4which are Israelites, whose [is] the adoption and the glory and the covenants and the law-giving and the service and the promises;
5whose are the fathers, and of whom [is] the Christ as far as according to flesh, who is over all God blessed forever. Amen.
6Not however that the word of God hath failed; for not all those that are of Israel [are] Israel;
7nor because they are Abraham's seed, [are] they all children, but “In Isaac shall a seed be called to thee.”
8That is, not the children of the flesh, these [are] children of God, but the children of the promise are reckoned for seed;
(Rom. 9:4‑8)
;
Gal. 3:19• 19Why then the law? For the sake of transgressions it was added, until the seed came to whom the promise was made, being ordained by means of angels in a mediator's hand. (Gal. 3:19)
;
Gal. 4:22‑31• 22For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one of the maidservant and one of the freewoman.
23But he that was of the maidservant was born according to flesh, and he that was of the freewoman through the promise.
24Which things are given allegorically, for these are two covenants, one from Mount Sina, gendering unto bondage, which is Agar.
25For Agar is Mount Sina in Arabia, but correspondeth with the existing Jerusalem, for she is in bondage with her children.
26But the Jerusalem above is free, which is our mother,
27for it is written, “Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break out and cry, thou that travailest not; for the children of the desolate are many more than of her that hath the husband.”
28But we, brethren, like Isaac, are children of promise.
29But as then he that was born according to flesh persecuted him that was according to Spirit, so now.
30But what saith the scripture? “Cast out the maidservant and her son. For in no wise shall the son of the maidservant inherit with the son of the freewoman.”
31Therefore, brethren, we are not children of a maidservant, but of the freewoman.
(Gal. 4:22‑31)
my friend.
 In verses 8 and 9 of our chapter Israel is reminded that as the seed of Abraham, who is honored as “My friend”, they are a chosen people and called to be the servant of God. How foolish then this turning to idols! (Isaiah 41 by F.B. Hole)
