 The figure of “awaking” is constantly employed in a moral sense in the Old Testament (see Isa. 51:17; 51:1; and more); and even in the New Testament it is used in a most striking way. The apostle, for example, writing to the Ephesians, says, “Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light” (Eph. 5:14); and no one could doubt the figurative sense in this passage. Secondly, the prophet Ezekiel uses the figure of resurrection plainly in the sense of a national revival. We say “plainly,” because the application, which the prophet himself makes, shows, beyond question, what was intended. (See Ezek. 37:1-14). (Daniel 12 by E. Dennett)
 “Shall awake, some to everlasting life.” This is not resurrection but the restoration of some to kingdom blessings (Psa. 71:20 JND; Isa. 26:19; Ezek. 37; Hos. 6:2; Rom. 11:15). “Everlasting life” here and “life forevermore” (Psa. 133:3) are millennial and alluded to in Matthew 19:16,29; 25:46; Mark 10:17,30; Luke 10:25; 18:18. Now in Christianity, commencing with John 3:15, “eternal life” has a special character as being life enjoyed in communion with God and by the Holy Spirit given from Christ glorified, consequent upon His having completed the work of redemption.
