Full Text of Rannygazoo
Since we have to deal with so much of it, speakers of English have come up with numerous words meaning nonsense, such as rannygazoo. There are nearly a hundred words in English that sound a bit nonsensical and that mean nonsense. Here is a small sample of them: bambosh, ballyhoo, blarney, codswollop, fiddlededee, flamdoodle, gibberish, galimatius, hogwash, piddle, blether, slipslop, taradiddle. The list goes on and on.
We all need to face facts. There is a lot of nonsense going on in the world. What we don’t want to do is to be so caught up in the nonsense that we can’t see it for what it really is. One subject where people get caught up in nonsense is trying to figure out where the universe came from. They think this beautiful world we live in is a product of random chance, as though chance could make anything. What nonsense! The universe, with all its incredible design, required a creator, and that Creator is God. The Bible agrees with this. It says, “The fool [has] said in his heart, There is no God” (Psalm 14:1). What is a fool but someone who is given to nonsense?
If you want your life to be full of nonsense, then go through life believing there is no God. Believe His providential care over His creatures doesn’t exist; believe He doesn’t intervene in the affairs of men and women; believe He didn’t create people with a special purpose in mind; believe this life is all there is and there is no life after death; believe men can live any way they want and all will be fine with them in the end — do these things and life fills up with utter meaninglessness.
Consider Truth
If you get tired of nonsense, and who in their right mind doesn’t, won’t you consider the truth of the gospel? God does exist. He does intervene in the affairs of men. The most wonderful intervention He made was when He came to earth in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ and gave His life for sinners. You see, God made man with a greater purpose in mind than for him to live just to please himself. He made men and women so that they would come to understand, love and honor Him. He made them so they could enjoy sweet fellowship with Him both in time and eternity. The Lord Jesus died on the cross so those who have lost their way in sin could have a way to be forgiven and return to God. The gospel is God’s intervention in the world to bring people back to Himself. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
Without Christ in our lives, our lives turn into so much nonsense, confusion and foolishness. It doesn’t make any sense to reject the Savior and the gift of eternal life He freely offers. Those who reject His offer will one day end up lost in the outer darkness of hell. What confusion, foolishness and nonsense to go to hell. Not a single person has to be there. By God’s grace, they might have all been saved. If they had only repented and believed in Christ, they would have made heaven their eternal home.
Leave the fribble, phonus-bolonus, brimborion, and trumpery of this unbelieving world behind, and come to Him who arose from the dead that He might give life to the world! Truth has a marvelous healing effect on our souls. Nonsense could never take its place. Won’t you believe in Him who said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me” (John 14:6)?
