Answer: Abraham Lincoln. He had the right perspective. God is always right. In fact, repenting means accepting God’s view and changing ours to match it. He says, “I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance” (Luke 5:32). Some think they have done enough good things and don’t need Christ to save them. But Jesus Christ came not to help hard-working sinners but to tell them to repent and completely trust Him for salvation from sin. He doesn’t ask us to do things to deserve heaven. He doesn’t present religion. Religion would be working to receive the approval of some “higher power.” Instead God says, “By grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). God presents salvation from sin to be received by the undeserving, not earned by good works. Now that’s a right perspective.
