Dear Donald,
Here is the disk which I promised you containing the translation of The Three Comrades. The files were converted by a Brother Word Processor lo the ASCII format, which supposedly can be read by any IBM compatible computer.
If you have any trouble transferring the files from this disk, just let me know and I may need to print out a copy on paper lo send lo you. You do not need to return the disk.
I plan to leave for Guatemala on August 29 and sometime later I will try to send you a disk with the translation of Saved at Sea when it is finished.
If you choose lo print the book and would like to send me a free copy, you may send it to my Pennsylvania address and my parents will forward it to me in Guatemala.
Comments and observations from the translator to the editor:
Since I do not have a copy of Sunshine Country in Spanish, I do not know what name they give to Palko. We should use the same name in this book as what he has in that book. I just called him Palko.
I divided the long paragraphs into smaller paragraphs at convenient places for easier reading You can easily change it back again if you prefer to do so when you edit it.
On page 35 in the phrase "after the death of our son" I changed death to birth because the second paragraph after that says that the son died after his mother died.
On page 52 in the phrase Palko is able to do this" I changed Palko lo Ondrejko because Ondrejko was the heir lo the herds, as explained on pages 55 and 56.
On page 83 I changed the phrase "went with his mother lo the cottage" lo "went to visit his mother at the cottage" because if he had gone with her, how could she have just prepared a letter for the mail when he entered the room?
I welcome any suggestions about improving my method of translating. Just send them lo my Pennsylvania address and my parents will forward them lo Guatemala.
