 The ground it rests on, as looking to God to bow down His ear, is fourfold. It is poor and lowly, {v.1} not of the proud of the earth; it is holy, {v.2} really set apart to God; Jehovah's servant {v.2} (with us the Father's name must come in here, as we have ever seen, and Christ as Lord), it trusts in Jehovah, and cries daily to the Lord {v.3}.  This psalm shows that although the remnant of Israel (the ten tribes) have returned to their land (Ps. 84) and are restored to the Lord (Ps. 85), they are still not fully at rest in their promised inheritance. Distress resulting from enemies having surrounded them (“the assemblies of violent men,” vs. 14) leads them to call upon the Lord for their preservation (vs. 1-7). (Book 3. by B. Anstey)
