Christ is the head of the church, and the Holy Spirit is its power—by the Spirit, Christ directs the members of the body. Instead, man has substituted his own efforts for the Spirit's ministration, and Christ's headship has long been usurped. Priests, bishops, elders, ministers, pastors and deacons are all to be found in the New Testament, and yet, there is so much confusion as to the function of each. One might hear some­thing along the lines of: Isn't a pastor just another name for a minister—and don't they function as priests? As to how this or that group may define these roles is of little consequence. Only one thing matters, and that is, what the Word of God has to say.
