 If you could not say that faith was before the life, certainly life is not before faith. The first exercise of faith is the first also of life. It is the power of the Spirit of God presenting Christ to the soul. (Remarks on Ephesians 2:4-10 by W. Kelly)
 “By grace ye are saved.” This is the source of all the blessing. And the expression is very strong. For what the form of the word implies is that the salvation was complete, and that they were now enjoying its present result. (Remarks on Ephesians 2:4-10 by W. Kelly)
 In Hebrews you have salvation connected with our Lord's appearing the second time. In Ephesians, on the contrary, we are saved already, and there Christ's return to receive His people is not throughout referred to. In the epistles where salvation is said to be consummated by and by, there we have Christ coming to finish it. (Remarks on Ephesians 2:4-10 by W. Kelly)
