Deut. 12:30‑31• 30Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou inquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.
31Thou shalt not do so unto the Lord thy God: for every abomination to the Lord, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.
(Deut. 12:30‑31)
;
Rom. 2:17‑25• 17Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,
18And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;
19And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,
20An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.
21Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?
22Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?
23Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonorest thou God?
24For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.
25For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.
(Rom. 2:17‑25)

Moabites.
 They were to be holy, not because they were better than everyone else, but because Jehovah was their God....They were a sanctified people, separated unto Jehovah, and they were not to behave like the nations. (The Condition of the Remnant in Judea -Ezra 9:1-2 by N. Simon)
 How vividly this translates to our present day. God’s injunction to be holy remains true as we have already observed: “Be ye holy; for I am holy” (1 Pet. 1:16), and why? Not because we are under law, but because we have “been redeemed  ...  with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot” (1 Pet. 1:18-19). (The Condition of the Remnant in Judea -Ezra 9:1-2 by N. Simon)
 It is as if Satan, having gained the advantage over them, would mock at and triumph over them by displaying the most horrible forms of the flesh. In the case before us, it was not only the abominations of the Canaanites, etc. (the former inhabitants of the land), but also those of the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites, into which the children of the captivity had fallen, that is, into every possible form of corruption. (The Book of Ezra: Restoration From Babylon: Ezra 9 by E. Dennett)

Now when these things were completed, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, according to their abominations, even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites;
