Homosexuality and God’s Word
The substance of a letter:
Dear Brother,
You asked me for a comprehensive list of Scripture passages dealing with the issue of homosexuality. I do not claim that this list is exhaustive, but I have made a significant and sincere effort to fulfill your request. We are in a spiritual war. In a war, attack may be direct or indirect. So, our Lord often cited Scriptures and used parables to indirectly engage the conscience and heart, thereby giving little ground or opportunity for mere argument, excuses, or sophistry. The Scriptures referenced here should be adequate for any honest soul. Should you, or anyone else, have any question as to the significance or legitimacy of any of the Scriptures referenced, I would be happy to respond; but if anybody wishes to argue, I recommend that he (or she) present his (or her) arguments directly to God. God will listen better and will answer better than I could—and He is the ultimate judge.
. . . . . . .
Please look up all of the Scriptures referenced.
“Prove all things; Hold fast that which is good.” 1 Thessalonians 5:21
“I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.” Romans 16:19
“Touch not the unclean thing.” 2 Corinthians 6:17
. . . . . . .
Genesis 1:26-28
God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. This was God’s first and best choice for companionship, and He commissioned Adam and Eve to populate the earth—something which was not homosexually possible. Therefore, homosexuality was plainly not part of His plan or purpose.
Genesis 6:19
Homosexuals argue that homosexuality is natural—noting that it occasionally appears to be practiced by a few species of animals. Nonetheless, God still ordained “male and female.”
Genesis 7:2 and 8:17
God ordained that “male and female” should enter the ark; and, after the flood, that they should “breed”—which is neither a normal nor a possible homosexual function.
Genesis 9:20-24
This is the first Scriptural example of something which might have hinted at homosexual interest, and it is associated with a curse.
Genesis 18:20
The sin of Sodom was offensive to God.
Genesis 19:1-15
Here is a plain portrayal of the character of homosexuality at its worst. Note that God first blinded and then destroyed these people. He may do the same today; but He would rather save them, because God is love, and He therefore loves every (perhaps called or claimed “gay”—but truly sad) sinner, despite his or her sin.
Leviticus 18:22-24
An abomination is something which is hateful and repulsive to God.
Leviticus 20:13
God declared homosexuality to be a capital offense—worthy of death.
Deuteronomy 22:5
A practice often associated with homosexuality is here condemned.
Judges 19
You may read the whole sad story, but particularly notice the terms used in describing the purposed assault— “wickedly,” “folly,” and “vile.”
1 Kings 14:24, 15:12, and 22:46
2 Kings 23:7
One of the good things Josiah did. The context is convicting.
Isaiah 3:9
Jeremiah 23:14
Ezekiel 16:46-50
Matthew 5:28
The literal meaning of the verse is plain and easy to understand; but does it not also apply in principle (virtually describe) to what commonly takes place at “gay bars” and at similar places where “gays” seek sexual partners?
Matthew 19:3-12
Jesus, who knows all things, all men, all circumstances, and all needs—and who cares about us and about all these things far more than we do—offers ONLY TWO alternatives.
Mark 10:2-12
Romans 1:18-32
Notice that homosexuality is here presented as an expression of rebellion against God.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10
Homosexuality is associated with fornication—uncleanness— “but ye are washed.” God can make anyone clean!
1 Corinthians 7:2
Marriage between a man and a woman is the only remedy provided—not homosexuality.
1 Corinthians 11:3
In the divinely ordained hierarchy or chain of authority presented here, no provision is made for a same-sex partner.
Galatians 5:19
Ephesians 5:3-7
Ephesians 5;22-23
The union and unity of husband and wife is a picture of Christ and the Church. What does a homosexual union picture?
Colossians 3:5-7
1 Timothy 1:9-10
1 Timothy 3:2
Leaders should set an example, and spiritual leaders should set a godly example. A man calling another man his “wife” or a woman calling another woman her “husband” does not meet God’s standard here.
Titus 1:6
2 Peter 2:6
Jude 7
Revelation 21:8 and 27
