Full Text of This Product
I have been blessed to have been raised in a Christian home where the Word of God was read and honored. I have had the additional blessing of living in a country with a wealth of inexpensive Christian literature and the freedom to read and to distribute it. Beyond that, I have had the privilege of spending my life in publishing Bible truth.
About 25 years ago, I began to be aware of the potential of using common modern technology to further spread the truth of God. Photocopiers were already very common, and desktop publishing was rapidly becoming cheap and relatively simple. At the same time, postage rates were climbing alarmingly. This prompted me to consider the many advantages of simply-designed, simply-produced, and readily-reproduced brochures, leaflets, texts, etc.—particularly brochures. You are reading a brochure.
From my youth, I have benefitted much from short individually-printed articles. We called them “pamphlets”. Such short publications are increasingly attractive today because people today tend to have short attention spans. Over several years, all of the above factors gradually coalesced in my mind and the ShareWord idea was born. At the time of its birth, freely distributed computer software called “shareware” was quite popular; so, ShareWord seemed to me to be a natural name for my proposed publication idea, and I slowly began to publish bookmarks, brochures, leaflets, texts, and tracts.
ShareWord has some distinct advantages:
1. It is easily produced. Most literate people have access to computers. Most of those who have access to computers also have access to photocopiers, printers, and the internet. The internet abounds with good Christian material worth printing and circulating. An ex-ceptional example of an especially rich source of articles is the BTP Digital Library which may be found at BibleTruthPublishers.com.
2. ShareWord is easily reproduced. The file formats are common and simple and willingly shared. Where a quantity of an article is wanted, it is often much cheaper to email a file or to mail a brochure and to reproduce it locally on a photocopier or on a printer. All ShareWord publications are reproducible, with no permission needed. The ShareWord imprint may be readily replaced with something more useful for local distribution, with no permission needed.
3. ShareWord publications are easily mailed in common envelopes. They are short enough to be read when received. They do not need batteries. They are readable when the internet is down. They fit common literature racks and are easily carried. Many of them feature large print—a real benefit for our increasingly geriatric society. The print you are reading is 14-point Times New Roman and is commonly considered to be “large print.”
4. It is hoped that others will see this opportunity and design and share similar editions of short articles which have been particularly helpful to them, or which they anticipate may be particularly helpful for the needs of others. It usually doesn’t take long to prepare an article for publication, and it is an enjoyable and profitable way to spend an evening.
5. Because of their very nature, ShareWord publications may be easily modified for special needs as they arise, or to correct errors in current editions. Should you discover, in a ShareWord publication, any factual, grammatical, spiritual, or typographical error, please let me know as soon as possible.
6. As this world’s darkness deepens, the need for multiplied lights increases. There may come a time when the freedoms we enjoy may be seriously restricted. The ShareWord idea offers an alternate means of disseminating God’s truth in ways which may be less affected by impending restrictions.
7. ShareWord offers a means of getting something into print which might not otherwise get into print because the anticipated circulation is not large enough to be considered worthwhile by an established publisher. For example, there is a growing need for large print gospel tracts—a need to which common gospel tract publishers have been slow to respond. ShareWord publishing may also be a means of introducing some-thing which an established publisher may subsequently appreciate and publish.
The ShareWord title list has been slowly growing. If you are interested in a list of over 400 current titles, please let me know. I am also interested in constructive comments and suggestions. I have no interest in competing with any publisher, but rather in encouraging the simple presentation of simple truths for the glory of God and for the benefit of His elect, whoever they may be.
At your service, for His sake,
John Kaiser
