A well of water―a springing well―springing up continually into eternal life. There are just two things to be considered: first, what it is―namely, the giving of the Holy Spirit; secondly, who it is that gives it―Christ. To have known the latter would have been to have asked for the former. (The Woman of Samaria by J.N. Darby)
Christ gives the Holy Ghost to the believer to be in him a fresh fountain of divine enjoyment, not only eternal life from the Father in the person of the Son, but the communion of the Holy Ghost, and hence the power of worship, as we shall see later in this very conversation. Thus it is not only deliverance from hankering after pleasure, vanity, sin, but a living spring of exhaustless and divine joy, joying in God through our Lord Jesus, and this in the power of the Spirit. (Notes on John 4:11-19 by W. Kelly)
It is not as with Israel in the wilderness that there was water from the smitten rock to drink. Here the promise is of a well of water springing up unto everlasting life in ourselves. (John 4 by J.N. Darby)
Christ gives the Holy Ghost to the believer to be in him a fresh fountain of Divine enjoyment, not only life eternal from the Father in the Person of the Son, but the communion of the Holy Ghost, and hence the power of worship. (John 4 by W. Kelly)

J. N. Darby Translation

+
14
but whosoever drinks of the water which I shall give him shall never thirst for everh, but the water which I shall give him shall become in him a fountain of water, springing up into eternal life.

JND Translation Notes

+
h
"Never thirst for ever" is a little awkward, but "never thirst" is too vague; it may be to our minds much as a present thing for this life. The expression is strong in negation, and expresses lasting for ever. see chs. 8.51,52; 10.28; 11.26; 13.8.

W. Kelly Translation

+
14
but whosoever drinketh of the water which I shall give him, shall in no way thirst forevera, but the water which I shall give him shall become in him a fountain of water springing up into life eternal.

WK Translation Notes

+
a
It is the strongest possible exclusion of what is in question for eternity.
